9 COLOSSUSES

This was my first attempt ever to illustrate an architectural landscape. This image was inspired by the famous concrete monumental sculptures, built in the 60’s-70’s; to commemorate sites where World War II battles took place or where concentration camps stood around the ex-Yugoslavia region (now Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina etc.) The idea came, as I witness this gigantic structures carrying a powerful meaning, being left in complete abandonment. A reminder of how fragile society is. As a tribute to this crumbling decadence, I “constructed” my own deserted place. I wanted to create a space with no human footprint visible, made with contrasting and vibrant materials; So I erected this colorful site, guarded by this 9 (numbered) colossuses in response.
