LOS EXTRANJEROS / ๐š๐–ขจเฐนเฑŒ๐–ฅˆ๊‘—๊”…๐–ญพ๐–ฃ—๐€ข๐–ขฎ๐‘‚“๐‘‚ฒ๐–ขจ๐ƒ is an immersive, multi-sensory exhibition that takes the viewer through wild terrain. Literally translated as "the Foreigners," the exhibition's title refers to the otherworldly figures seen among an industrial landscape, caught in moments after an unsung downfall, yet before complete decay. These figures embody ambiguous reciprocity: on beds of soil with flowers at their feet, or behind chain-link fence, they ask the viewer to decipher whether they are nurturing or hostile; calm or ferocious; protected or exposed. The answer is complex: often, our understanding of a threat comes from within.

Meticulously crafted from materials found, repurposed, aged, and made, TLaloC engages in world - and language-building efforts that are overstimulating as they are multitudinous.

The symbols on the wall, the scents - like burnt sugar and gunpowder - wafting in the air, the droning sound, and the exact purpose of the rusty detritus scattered across the exhibition cumulatively lead to a constant effort of navigation in the viewer, which, in turn, mirrors the experience of being a foreigner in a new space. The dystopian nature of such experience is further elaborated on in the soundtrack, made in collaboration with musician Miguel Soto. Featuring recordings of immigrants answering survey questions about their life experience, the track's ominous sonic qualities disguise the softness and vulnerability that comes with a diasporic existence. Cumulatively, the artist rearranges signs and signifiers to create further opacity and charts a new mode of survival, where the overstimulating exterior beckons a need to look deep within.
